after christmas gawking
i normally avoid after christmas sales like a kid with lice and especially now that i'm older, the thought of driving in circles to look for parking or standing in lines for everything (including the restroom when it's not even the movies or concert!), does not speak to me. i would rather stay home and wash dishes.
but this year, i ventured out of my lair because i wanted to pick up a prezzie for my friend's baby so the thought was....if i'm going to the mall anyways, then let's go to south coast plaza! yay for having a nice boyfriend because he obliged and off we went to the o.c. if you guys aren't familiar with south coast plaza, it's like rodeo drive all packed up into a mall. personally, i prefer it over bev hills. at least parking is free and accessible and there's a ton more places to shop, like H & M and zara to name a few.
when we got there in the afternoon, the place was PACKED! i'm not sure what kind of sales there were to be had there, but i wasn't really there to shop, more like to GAWK since i was out and about anyways.
some leftover christmas cheer. instead of playing "where's waldo," let's play, "where's santa?" can you spot santa's little helper in this picture?
i saw a few "sale" signs placed on the windows of stores that i would normally patronize, but walking into one of them and not being able to turn in a 360 degree circle without getting bumped was nuts. so i decided, NO WAY, i'm gawking today, NOT shopping so off i went to cartier, chanel, and hermes instead.
the nice thing about a busy shopping day is that stores that are normally stone cold empty have life in them. hermes is a perfect example. normally, i wouldn't even set foot in there because it's usually empty and intimidating. the sales people usually check you out, stare you down, and then ignore you because their quick robotic assessment tells them you have about a dollar in your purse. some folks really don't care about that and would walk in anyways, but to me, i feel unwelcomed so i normally stay away. besides, i won't be buying anyways, so why deal with unpleasantries...but HA HA! they were so busy after christmas with so many lookie loos that i walked right in and was comfortably ignored. whooo...let's bag molest shall we?
birkins and other shapes with all kinds of colors. i didn't tote any (didn't want to take a chance of sowing a seed of desire when i absolutely can't/shouldn't/wouldn't).
they also sell a lot of other things, like bags, bracelets, scarves, ties, and belts. you name it, they probably have it. i saw a couple looking at dishware. NOW THAT, i don't understand. hermes is known for their bags, not dishware.
they also have these super pretty lizard skin wallets. ooh la la.
and the biggest hermes bag of them all, this big orange pumpkin of a bag. i don't know the style name of this bag because they change base on the size, but it's in the iconic shape with its iconic hardware. orange is the signature hermes color and when you buy hermes, it comes in an orange box. the charms of the hermes orange is intoxicating.
they also make the prettiest red color ever. i think of crayola red when i see this.
so after dragging the boyfriend through the store, it was time to depart. the drooling was too intense and the front of my shirt was wet from it. next time i go to hermes, i'm bringing a bib and walking away with a birkin :)

pumpkin spiced hermes
every year, i MUST go to starbucks for a cup of their pumpkin spice latte. yes, it is a must. it's like an itch that must be scratched or you forever go on thinking how itchy you are. it's one of those. anyways, i scratched my pumpkin spice latte itch on sunday and WHAT DID I SEE BEFORE MY BAG WHORE EYES as i waited for my itchy drink in starbucks?! holy crap. it's a pink, ostrich skin HERMES birkin! cute! it is MUCH rarer to see a hermes than other designer bags, so when i come across one, i totally bag molest with my eyes. although i wouldn't personally carry this particularly flashy pink bag myself because the color is a bit limiting to your outfits, it looked pretty hot on this lady. *sigh* hermes...now wouldn't it be nice to have a little black hermes for my collection one day? haha, i wish.

a grave saturday
when i was invited to watch a movie this saturday at the cemetary with a few friends, in my brain, i thought "wtf?" but with my mouth i said "yes." it's like a batter fried twinkie...it feels wrong but i still want to try it kwim? so my main squeeze and i packed our reusable costco bag with blankets and potstickers for sitting and eating and checked out "cinespia" at the hollywood forever cemetary (http://www.cinespia.org/calendar/). holy guacamole look at the line! who knew hanging out with the dead was so popular?! it took almost 30 minutes to get to the front of the line.
i definitely see a trend towards reusable bags. YAY, gooooo green!...trader joes, whole foods, and even a big blue ikea bag were hanging about the line. my main squeeze has a few himself, a big ole costco bag and trader joe's bags which we use for groceries and quick picnics. good thing he carries them most of the time because they are ooooglly....does chanel make something of the like? i kid....
when we finally got in, a brisk walk to the seating area meant tombstone sightings. eewww...may you rest in peace....all of yous.
this picture has an anne rice-ish quality to it minus the overtly sexual vampires that usually romps about in her books. still spooky. i wouldn't be caught dead hanging about here....hey wait a minute! movie...yes, gotcha.

cool ivy covered building shot.
if watching a movie in a cemetary isn't weird enough, you are also encouraged to bring a picnic basket and drinks. somehow, eating amongst the dead did not make it on my list of "must do's" till that saturday. i think if i think about it too much, it is creepy. so i didn't...i started people watching instead and noticed all the bags folks were carrying their food and libations in.i definitely see a trend towards reusable bags. if you squint a bit, you might be able to see marilyn manroe in "some like it hot." total tangent, but dang, she wore some pretty risque outfits and the funny thing is that her tits hung pretty low. perhaps firm and perky is a more contemporary thing because those boobies DID NOT look sexy to me at all.
and then the night ended and we went our merry ways...alive and kicking.Saturday, July 4, 2009
when bags grow hair
i feel hot. do you feel hot? does this hot weather make you feel like throwing a few ice cubes down your pants?
if you feel hot, don't you think this hairy bag feels hot as well? do you think it sweats like we do? i was at hugo's in atwater waiting for my organic white washed burrito and saw this lady toting this hairy bag. at first, i thought it was a dog, but once i focused my eyes on it, i noticed it was a travesty with handles. ugh.
i like unique accessories. i really do. but this one is just plain fug to the 10th power. what in the world drew this lady to it? i don't think even god has an answer to that question.
i took my quick spy photo and left. poof. btw, the burrito was aight.

the raging renaissance
on saturday, i was overwhelmed by an incredible urge to go medieval. did you guess renaissance faire?! ding, ding, ding, you are correct. a few friends and i drove our bums to irwindale to stare at a group of people stuck in time. the ladies there seemed to love it because they get to be wenches and flop their boobies around (shameful hussies) and the men just love any excuse to look like fabio with their billowy white pirate shirts (inner gay?).
first things first...let's get grub was the battle cry!! there's something about attending a fair that makes you overeat. let me rephrase that. there's something about attending a fair that makes ME overeat. and overeat on bad stuff too. damn it! thank god i was wearing an empire waist dress because my expanded belly required coverage. apparently cheese squeezed out of a can was popular during the middle ages. boy did i feel robbed when i found that squirted on my food! can't believe i ate them anyways. *head hung low*
and as always, my peepers were on the look out for bags or any baglike things. although there were no chanels or marc jacobs back in da days, renaissance fashion seems to indicate that small pouches or leather bags were hawt. see anything you like? they kinda remind me of the silk pouches that japanese women carry on their wrists when they are wearing their kimonos.
methinks these bazookas are illegal in 40 states!

here's a dude with his pouch. i wonder if these pouches were the medieval equivalents of fanny packs. what say you?
whatcha put in your pouch sir?
boobies and bags oh my!
great things to look at. this gypsy dance was probably my favorite out of the whole lot.
pretty fun for a medieval day in irwindale.

it takes a village to celebrate a marriage
if you haven't heard me mention this before, i am slated to attend MANY weddings this year. last night, was another one. the person getting married is the son of a family that lived in the same village as my parents back in our mother land. that's right. keeping the village relations tight. being the somewhat filial daughters that we are, my sis and i became the taxi service for the fam, driving two uncles and our parents all the way to claremont in friday rush hour traffic....effin' friday traffic. you might wonder why they did not just get married during the weekend to make it easier on their guests? that's because asians love their superstitions (though i must admit, i fobbily ascribe to them too for different things), and yesterday was 08-08-08. it was a lucky day to be married...i guess you can't discount the billions of chinese who think they are in the right.
the wedding was quaint. it was held at one of the claremont college campuses so we got slightly lost. we missed the wedding ceremony itself, but came just in time for their open bar (score!) and appetizers. i chatted with some fam, but my sis and i mostly amused ourselves by taking pictures and by drinking. i discovered a great drink that night! amaretto with milk. sooooo tasty and dessertish. by the time we got seated, i alreay had 3 drinks. by the end of the night, i had 5. yum. they must be weak or my tolerance has grown. oh my! hahahaha.
as always, i carried golden deliciousness. she is my evening bag of choice. at the wedding, i also noticed a chanel sister carrying her white caviar flap with silver hardware. she sat at the next table directly behind me so i was able to steal some shots. white bags are really pretty, but alas, i can imagine they are hard to take care of. it would be hard for me to spend that kind of money on a white bag. anyways, another wedding attended. so far, the count is three.
side view. so preeettyyy.....
full frontal. it looked like the medium size to me.

please don't take me out
last weekend, i went to a yelp elite event. if you did not know this, i'm a yelper too (ahhahha...the things i do on my free time). i'm not just any ole yelper mind you, but an "elite" one, meaning i get invited to free shitz! last saturday, i was invited to some shmancy shin dig where i got free booze and fancy tapas....oh, and a free yelpie hoodie carried in a cute green awareness tote. whoo hoo! *bagnatic smacking her lips* i was drunk by 7pm and stuffed. haha. good times, good times.
anyways, while drinking and eating, i spotted a few bags there. OF COURSE! i saw this fellow yelper toting a super cute chanel brown lambskin flap. so purty! but then i saw THIS atrocity:
ugh, PLEASE DON'T EVER BUY A PURSE SHAPED LIKE A CHINESE TAKE OUT BOX. PLEASE DON'T. I DON'T CARE IF IT'S COVERED IN FAUX SILK TO MAKE IT "FANCIER." THERE IS NO WAY OF MAKING A TAKE OUT BOX FANCIER!!! THAT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG AND SO FREAKIN' FUGZ AND I JUST FELT LIKE GRABBING THIS FELLOW YELPER'S TAKE OUT PURSE TO PUT IN SOME TAPAS TO TAKE HOME. LET'S ALL PUKE IN UNISON.hey, i'm not saying gimmicks can't be cute. look, i have a star purse circa before i became a bag obsessed whore, but you don't see me rocking it now do you? i know my limits, like no mini skirts after age 35....
my star bag is still hella cute, but once you go bagnatic, it's hard to go back to this hot topic tote.
